Persian King Shahryar was a dreadful ruler. He was certain that all women were devious and would betray him; he would marry a girl each day and execute her the next morning before she could be disloyal. This carried on for three years, until all the eligible women in the land were either dead or had run away.
The only remaining maiden was Scheherazade. Despite her father’s objections, Scheherazade agreed to marry the king.
For 1,001 nights, Scheherazade told the king a story, each time stopping at dawn with a cliffhanger, thus forcing him to keep her alive for another day so that she could complete the tale the next night. After 1,001 stories, Scheherazade told Shahryar that she had no more for him.
Fortunately, during the telling of the stories, Shahryar had grown into a wise ruler and rekindled his trust in women.
When our magic carpet departs, we will cross the ocean to Porto, Portugal via Amsterdam, then on to the Azores Islands and Madeira in the mid-Atlantic. From there we will venture to north Africa, where we will visit ancient and modern sites in Morocco.
At the end of the trip, we will spend ten days on the islands of São Tomé and Principe, off the west coast of Africa.
I hope to gather as many stories as Scheherazade on our month-long journey.

The carpet is at the gate, grab a window seat and ride along with us.
I hope that the stories we encounter on our journey will enlighten and entertain for …
… One Thousand and One Nights.

I wish you well on your trip. I’ll be watchful of the adventure. Likely wishing I was taking it in personally as well.
Cheers.
