Live is Life

Vienna, Austria

Can you keep a secret? Good, I am about to reveal something I was sworn to never tell anyone.

Last night Bear and I attended the Vienna State Opera House for an operatic performance of Romeo and Juliette.  It didn’t go as planned.

Charles Gounod’s production of Romeo and Juliette is the epitome of operatic entertainment.

1700 tuxedoed and gowned patrons filled the seats around us and the curtain went up.

When the performance broke for intermission.  Bear and I stepped out to the foyer for some fresh air. She looked at me, I looked at her…..

One of us: Do you care if we see the second half?

The other: Not really.

Both: Good, let’s wander the plaza and get a bite.

And that is what we did.  Dressed to the nines, forsaking tickets that cost more than I care to mention, we found a street-side Italian café and enjoyed an evening in line with our tastes.

You get to a certain age, and it is time to embrace exactly who you are.

I might go back to the Vienna State Opera House, but if I do it will be to see Opus perform …

Live is Life.

Live is Life by Austrian band Opus was a #1 Hit in Europe in 1985.  It only reached #38 on the US Billboard chart, but for some reason Canadians loved it.  The song went to #1 in Canada in 1985 and stayed on the Top Ten list for four weeks. Opus performed Live is Life at the Vienna State Opera House in 2021.
