Mandolin Wind

August 17, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

The kids gave us Rod Stewart tickets for Christmas.  It has been a long wait but Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright).

Driving Rod Stewart’s old car is about as close to stardom as I will ever get.

We arrived at the Saddledome early and parked the Clénet in the front row, hoping the man himself might see Maggie May and come for a ride.

The superstar didn’t take the bait, but about a thousand other people turned their heads and said, “That’s All Right”.

The show started with a set by Cheap Trick.  The ageing rockers grunged their way through I Want You to Want Me, and a dozen metal numbers.  The band hasn’t moved on from their heyday, they seemed like old men, squished into 1980s costumes.

I usually Don’t Be Cruel, but Cheap Trick’s lead guitarist reminded me too much of Rudy Giuliani.

Not what we came for.

When Rod Stewart finally got on stage, he reignited the audience.

Rod Stewart is Forever Young. His show at the Saddledome last night was packed with energy.

Rod had some help keeping it young.  He was accompanied by a bevy of multi-talented young women.   Ooh La La!

Bear and I felt the energy – tickets to Rod Stewart were the best Christmas present, ever!

Some Guys Have All the Luck.

We drove the Clénet home in the dark, the 1970’s headlights barely illuminating our path as we went Sailing down the highway, the top down, our hair blowing in the …

Mandolin Wind.
