Vancouver Island, BC
Prairie folks flock to Vancouver Island by the droves, especially in winter. The Wet Coast, The Left Coast, Lotusland, or Whatever You Want to Call It, has physical and cultural features that attract flatlanders in great numbers. Some, like my siblings and I, visit occasionally. Others move to Canada’s West Coast and never return.

The Paton clan is meeting on Vancouver Island again this weekend. We have a lovely Air BnB situated on the water with room for a dozen prairie folk. We have some cousins traveling with us, and we will meet with other cousins who moved from Saskatchewan to BC many years ago and settled into the west-coast lifestyle.
Our mission is to immerse ourselves in the laid-back culture and coastal habitat for a few days, to see what the attraction is.
Please join us as we uncover the reasons why multitudes of prairie people move to …
… The Coast.
Bear and I made a trip to Vancouver Island in 2019. Our purpose then was to find the dark side of Island living. I posted our findings in a journal at the time, but it has never been published on WellWaterBlog.ca.
