Austria-Hungary-Slovakia
I stumbled upon Franz Xaver Messerschmidt when I was trying to entertain myself during Covid. Messerschmidt was a German-Austrian artist who sculpted Kopfstücke (Head Pieces) in the mid 1700’s. I posted a piece about Messerschmidt and Kopfstücke in April 2022, and I have wanted to see some of his character heads up close ever since.
The Belvedere Palace Museum in Vienna has a collection of Messerschmidt sculpture, so that will be one of our first stops.
Other Austro-Hungarians we hope to meet are Sigmund Freud, Mozart, the Lipizzaner Stallions, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Almásy László (The English Patient), Hayden, Hapsburgs, and Hitler, among others.
Das Führer isn’t one of Messerschmidt’s sculptures, but he has similar facial features, don’t you think?
While we are in Vienna, we will travel back in time to Hofburg Palace, on March 15, 1938, to see if we can talk some sense into Adolph Hitler before he gives his infamous Anschluss speech to the Austrian people. We will need your help on this mission.
Speaking of your help, WellWaterBlog is closing in on 25,000 views in 65 countries since we started posting two years ago. Your contribution to those big numbers is very much appreciated.

Conversely, if you are getting too much mail from me, unsubscribe or just let me know and I will take you off the broadcast lists. No offense taken.
We land in Vienna at 2:00pm (their time) on Thursday. We will probably get some Wienerschnitzel or one of those vertical hotdogs as soon as we arrive, then go meet some Austrians.
Please join us, as we make…
… New Friends.
