That last comparison is a bit of an exaggeration. There are plenty of birds on Capitola Beach, but they haven’t attacked anyone. At least not this year.
On August 18, 1961, hordes of seabirds, delirious on poisoned algae, dive-bombed Capitola homes, crashed into cars and spewed half-digested anchovies all over the seashore. The event inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s 1964 horror film …
